Chapter News
September 2010 – At the July 2010 meeting of ACT CT Chapter, President Peter Sullivan recommended Mike Whitham, Chapter Vice President, to become the 4th President of ACT CT Chapter. Peter has reached the end of his term and believes that Mike has the experience, dedication and talents to continue to lead ACTS CT in its mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ among Catholic communities by promoting, consulting in, facilitating and sponsoring ACTS retreats.
Peter stated: “Mike has brought his project management experiences, talents, and planning expertise to the ACTS community during the past five years. He has participated on numerous retreat teams, formalized the Talk Team preparation program, helped develop the ACTS CT Director Formation training program, directed the first ACTS retreat away from Immaculata (My Fathers House), directed the first ACTS CT mission retreat to Canada, and currently serves as Vice President of ACTS CT Chapter. The ACTS Community willingly looks to Mike for his advice and counsel. He is extremely qualified to lead ACTS as it continues its growth and development in Connecticut.”
Following Peter’s recommendation, Pam Plasse nominated Mike to the position, and the motion was seconded by Judy Crane. The members of ACTS CT Chapter voted unanimously to approve (with Mike Whitham and Bob Felix abstaining) and Mike was elected President of ACTS CT.
In accepting the position, Mike thanked Peter for his past efforts and vowed to continue to build on the foundation created over the past year. Mike stated: “To say that ACTS has changed my life would be an understatement. It occurred to me recently, that every good thing that has happened to me in the last five years can be traced directly back to my first ACTS Retreat. What made this so much better then all the other experiences and organizations? I believe it's the spirituality. That is what was missing from all the rest. And I realize now, that the components that make up ACTS -- Adoration, Community, Theology and Service -- together -- are what have made that difference. Two things drive me now. The first is knowing that the service we give -- is service to The Lord. What could be better then that? The second is that I want as many people as possible to experience this wonderful gift we call ACTS -- and be given the opportunity to develop a more personal relationship with our Lord.
To that end, I have dedicated myself. And I am happy and proud to be able to serve along side others who have as well.”
Additionally Mike announced that the following were his goals for the next year:
He has pledged that he will keep the ACTS Community informed of the progress toward meeting these goals, and will send out a news letter to that effect in the near future.
Respectively,
Judy Crane, Secretary,
ACTS CT Chapter
